READO (Rural Education and Agriculture Development Organization) is a local NGO dedicated to empowering communities in Somalia through humanitarian aid and sustainable development. Our mission is to foster resilience and self-reliance among vulnerable communities by providing innovative tools, essential resources, and actionable knowledge tailored to their unique challenges.
We focus on six key areas: Health and Nutrition, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, Resilience and Climate Adaptation, and Peacebuilding. Our initiatives range from expanding healthcare services and improving education infrastructure to supporting sustainable agriculture and promoting community resilience to climate change.
READO enhances healthcare access through building health facilities, training healthcare workers, and implementing nutrition programs to combat malnutrition. We also conduct vaccination campaigns and health education to improve community health outcomes, especially for women and children.
We develop and rehabilitate water supply systems, build sanitation facilities, and promote hygiene education in remote and underserved areas. During emergencies, we provide rapid WASH responses to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure communities have access to safe water and sanitation.
We support smallholder farmers with resources, training, and access to markets to improve food security and economic stability. By promoting climate-smart agricultural practices and alternative income-generating activities, we help communities reduce vulnerability to food shortages and economic shocks.
We implement climate-smart agricultural practices, strengthen early warning systems, and support sustainable natural resource management. Our goal is to help communities adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change, enhancing their ability to withstand environmental challenges.
READO engages communities in dialogue and reconciliation processes, supports local governance structures, and implements programs to counter violent extremism. By addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting social cohesion, we aim to build a more peaceful and stable society.
We engage communities as active partners, involving them in the planning and implementation of our programs. We also collaborate with local and international NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners to leverage resources and maximize impact.
READO is funded through grants from international donors, private sector partnerships, and individual contributions. You can support our work by donating through our website, volunteering, or participating in our advocacy and fundraising campaigns.
We have a robust Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework to track our progress and assess impact. We conduct regular audits and provide transparent reports to ensure accountability to our beneficiaries, donors, and partners.
