Founded in 2008, Rural Education and Agriculture Development Organization (READO) is a leading non-governmental organization in South Central Somalia, which, implements emergency aid intervention and development programs. Independent, private and not-for-profit, READO respects a strict political and religious impartiality, operating according to principles of rigorous transparency.
Since 2008, READO has been responding to the multiple shocks facing Somalia, through the implementation of emergency response and resilience building programs, targeting mainly destitute agro-pastoral, riverine and IDP communities in southern regions with funding from various international partners. Currently, READO programs in Somalia focus on building capacity to respond to emergency outbreaks, as well as improving livelihoods and vocational skills training for the youth at risk in Baidoa. READO is currently part for the Food Security Cluster Review Committee (CRC) representing local NGOs in Somalia thus proven itself credible not only to local NGOs in Somalia but also UN and INGOs.
Vision: READO is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization with a vision to bring humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people in danger of natural and human-induced disasters. READO is committed to ensuring the uppermost ideals of accountability are observed and strives to meet the needs of the most vulnerable populations by delivering the adequate humanitarian service in each situation.
Mission: READO exists to improve the living standard of its target people through: rehabilitation of economic infrastructures, agriculture, water and environmental protection, income generation and education programs in a participatory approach and motivating the agro-pastoralists in their field to result good production which can eliminate the poverty and hunger.
READO is registered as an NGO with the Ministry of Interior and National Security, Mogadishu- Somalia Ref No MINS/0077/2016.
